BMW E46 Track-Pro Race Pedal Box with Fly By Wire Accelerator – Obp New Product

Hello.

How are you today?

We have been at it again!!

obp are proud to inform you about another obp Track-Pro pedal solution.

(watch out for cheap Track-Pro and Pro-Race copies)

You can now get a obp pedal solution for the BMW E46 that gives you full control over the front to rear brake bias and is easy to install.

We have systems for the RHD and LHD cars

LHD BMW E46 Track-Pro Pedal Solution*

*The base plate may not be required

RHD BMW E46 Track-Pro Pedal Solution*

(With Extra Components)

*The base plate may not be required

The Track-Pro systems are designed to fit to the angle of the floor pan, this revolutionary and innovative obp design is very easy to install.

You will not have issues with the steering column / electrics getting in the way or having to fit mounting brackets.

These are the normal issues you will encounter when you install a universal fit race pedal box.

This E46 race pedal solution is perfect for Drifting, Rally, Race and Track Day cars.

What is really clever about this unit is that the original BMW Fly By Wire throttle pedal is used with this Track-Pro pedal box.

This is a fantastic solution to the problem of the Fly By Wire system being very hard to get around.

With our obp BMW E46 pedal system you do not have to worry about this problem any more.

Please have a look at the images below, it is a very easy modification that is required to enable the original Fly By Wire Accelerator system to be used and fitted to the obp Track-Pro pedal system.

The first thing you will be required to do is remove the E46 Accelerator Pedal, remove the screws that hold the side cover on.

You will need to saw / cut through the bottom of the main unit. As shown in the image above.

This will release the throttle pedal pad.

You will then have the pedal in the above state. You will need to cut the ball off the end of the push rod and connect the plastic ball joint that is supplied with the pedal box.

This is a tight fit however you may wish to use an adhesive to secure the ball joint to the Fly By Wire push rod.

The Fly By Wire (FBW) unit is then bolted to the bracket on the E46 pedal box, you will need to drill the bracket and the FBW unit to secure.

This is then fitted into the car using the floor pan angle to secure the pedal box.

obp is the leading manufacturer of pedal solutions in Europe and heading toward the largest in the World.

We now have Track-Pro solutions for the Ford, Citroen, BMW, VW, Peugeot,  Renault and Suzuki.

If you require a system that is not on this list please get in touch and let us see what we can do for you.

Thank you for your time, all of us at obp Ltd look forward hearing from you soon.

Why Use A Dry Sump? What Is A Dry Sump? obp Tech Session

Hello.

How are you today?

I have just had a conversation with a customer about the benefits of a dry sump system.

I thought you may be interested in this information, so here you go.

In a wet sump, the oil pump sucks oil from the bottom of the oil pan through a tube, and then pumps it to the rest of the engine.

In a dry sump, extra oil is stored in a tank outside the engine rather than in the engine sump. There are at least two oil pumps in a dry sump — one pulls oil from the sump and sends it to the tank, and the other takes oil from the tank and sends it to lubricate the engine.

Dry sump systems have several important advantages over wet sumps:

  • Because a dry sump does not need to have an engine oil sump big enough to hold the oil under the engine, the main mass of the engine can be placed lower in the vehicle. This helps lower the center of gravity and can also help aerodynamics.

  • The oil capacity of a dry sump can be as big as you want, this Will allow more heat displacement.

  • The tank holding the oil can be placed anywhere on the vehicle, allowing you to dictate where the weight is placed.

  • In a wet sump, turning, braking and acceleration can cause the oil to pool on one side of the engine. This sloshing can dip the crankshaft into the oil as it turns or uncover the pump’s pick-up tube. This will create oil starvation deadly to a performance engine.

  • Excess oil around the crankshaft in a wet sump can slap against the crankshaft, this will cut horsepower. Some people claim improvements of as much as 15 horsepower by switching to a dry sump.

The disadvantage of the dry sump is the increased weight, complexity and cost from the extra pump and the tank — but that’s a small price to pay for such big benefits!

Thank you for your time, all of us at obp Ltd look forward hearing from you soon.

Regards

Why Use An Intercooler? obp Tech Session

Hello.

How are you today?

This is a little bit of basic info about how intercoolers work.

How does an intercooler work?

Intercooler only work in conjunction with a turbocharger and Super Chargers / Blowers. The outlet air from the turbocharger and Super Charger / Blower heats up because of the work that has been done to compress it. Compressed air heats up. The increase in temperature results in a decrease in density, which means that less air enters the combustion chamber. An intercooler is used to cool down the compressed air, which increases the density. Denser air makes for better combustion (more power). Additionally, the denser, cooler air helps reduce the chances of knock. Two types of intercoolers are available on the market: air-to-air and water-to-air.

Where do I mount the intercooler?

Mount the intercooler as close as possible to the turbo and intake manifold. The shorter the path from the turbo outlet to the inlet manifold, the less the pressure drop and throttle-lag will be. Ensure that the intercooler gets direct airflow across the core for optimal cooling.

I trust this has been of interest to you, please spread the word about obp tech sessions.

Thank you for your time, all of us at obp Ltd look forward hearing from you soon.

How To Increase BHP? obp Tech Session

Hello.

I found this basic information on how to boost BHP and thought it may interest you.

There are many different ways to create more horsepower from a stock engine. Here are several examples (generally in order from least to most difficult/expensive):

Change your computer chip. Sometimes, but certainly not always, you can change a car’s performance by changing the ROM chip in the engine control unit (ECU). You usually buy these chips from aftermarket performance dealers. It is valuable to read an independent review of the chip you are contemplating, because some chips are all hype and no performance.

Let air come in more easily. As a piston moves down in the intake stroke, air resistance can rob power from the engine. Some newer cars are using polished intake
manifolds to eliminate air resistance there. Bigger air filters and reduced intake piping can also improve air flow.

Let exhaust exit more easily. If air resistance
or back-pressure makes it hard for exhaust to exit a cylinder, it robs the engine of power. If the exhaust pipe is too small or the muffler has a lot of air resistance then this can cause back-pressure. High-performance exhaust systems use headers, big tail pipes and free-flowing mufflers to eliminate back-pressure in the exhaust system.

Change the heads and cams. Many stock engines have one intake valve and one exhaust valve. Buying a
new head that has four valves per cylinder will dramatically improve airflow in and out of the engine and this can improve power. Using performance cams can also make a big difference.

I trust this has been of some interest to you.

Thank you for your time, all of us at obp Ltd look forward hearing from you soon.

obp Tech Session Longer Life For Fuel Pumps

Hello.
I have just come accross this bit of information and feel it would be of interest to you and may even save a bit of your hard earned cash!

Electric Fuel Pump Precautions

The heart of the fuel injection system is the main fuel supply and the fuel pump needs to operate at 100% for the injection system to function correctly.

So , why are we talking ‘Fuel Pumps’?

Well, the purpose of this message is to ensure that we maximise our driving and racing enjoyment and reduce maintenance expense by taking note of the following points:

Fuel & Fuel Tank Contamination
Fuel Injection pumps are by design, manufactured to close (tight) tolerances to produce the desired high fuel pressure. Minute particles of contamination ie. water, rust or dirt entering the pump will prove fatal, causing permanent damage to the fuel pump.

Low Fuel Levels
People who consistently drive on reserve fuel levels run also the risk of failure. An injection pump operates at approximately 5000 revs/minute and relies on fuel to lubricate and cool the moving parts. Remember, next time you drive on reserve fuel, pump damage may be occurring. Fuel supplied by the petrol station can be contaminated, and this dirty fuel is just waiting at the bottom of your tank.

Pump Failed – Overheated
The above events result in the pump overheating over weeks or months, followed by final failure, and low fuel levels will also not help with the cooling process of the pump.

Blocked Fuel Filter
Always ensure that the Fuel Filter is maintained regularly. Fine contamination and fuel wax will restrict fuel flow causing back pressure on the fuel pump and restricting its natural function. This results in fuel cavitation followed by progressive pump damage and resulting in failure.

So please make sure that you:-

1) Avoid driving and ignoring the Low Fuel Warning Light.

2) If you are aware of fuel contamination, get the system cleaned, starting with the fuel tank!

3) Follow the maintenance program of your vehicle, which includes the fuel system.

Please Note:- If you have just removed a fuel pump, ask yourself why it failed. If you do not take a minute to consider this question, the New Pump may suffer the same fate!

An expensive oversight for just a moments thought!

Thank you for your time.
