This message is to inform you about obp Motorsports bespoke / one off Aluminium tank manufacture.

We call this our Special Aluminium Tank Manufacture Service.

Below is the protocol we require to be able to fulfill your special tanks with ease and to make sure they are exactly what you require.

Obp Motorsports Aluminium Bespoke / Special Tank Protocol Sheet

Obp Motorsports can undertake most Aluminium tank designs, however for us to complete the tank correctly and without any delays or issues we need the following information, all tanks will carry the obp logo.

Please Provide a Drawing that shows:

·      All sizes and dimensions (Width, Height and Length)

·      If the tank is shaped then all angles will need to be shown

·      Fitting types and sizes (Push, JIC Male or JIC Female)

·      Fittings position showing dimensions (Breather, Feed, Return etc.)

·      Filler position, showing dimensions and filler size (50mm O/D or 40mm O/D)

·      Filler Splash bowl (If required)

·      Brackets type and dimensions (If required)

·      Sender hole position showing dimensions (If required)

·      Sight tube position showing dimensions (If required)

·      Foam Filled – Blue or Yellow (If required)

If you have any other requirements please make sure you show them on the drawing.

Once we have the drawing we can then get one of our technical team to look over the drawing and if we require any further information we will contact you.

Once we have all the information we require we will then be able to provide you with a quote.

Once payment has been made and the order is confirmed we will endeavor to complete the tank within 10 working days (*)

We have developed these with ribbed push on fittings and JIC screw on fittings.
As you are aware the MSA regulations state that up to 2 litre cars require a 2 litre oil catch tank, and over 2 litre cars require a 3 litre oil catch tank.

Why and How to fit a Subaru WRX 3 Port Race Oil Catch Tank – obp Tech Session

Hello

How are you today?

obp Ltd have just designed an oil catch tank for the Subaru WRX, this a little bit of info about how and why you would want to fit the catch tank.

The point of a catch can is to minimize the amount of oil vapor that’s fed into an engine’s air intake and to stop oil dripping on to the race track.

Normally a 2 port Oil Catch Tank is fine and catches oil vapor from the rocker cover.

On a Subaru WRX etc. require 3 ports.

Subaru 3 Port Fitting:

1) From the Rocker Cover Breather

2) Crankcase Vent Tube / PCV Valve

3) Turbo Air Intake

The oil catch tank is plumbed into a vehicle’s PCV system to capture the excess crankcase vapors and the residual oil mist from reentering the intake track. Vehicles from the factory vent these excess crankcase vapors and residual oil right back into the intake manifold which could cause detonation and oil deposits to form in the intake track including the valves.

The oil catch tank will allow your engine to run more efficiently due to the separation of oil from the intake system.

When there is oil in your system, the result is:

1) Reduced fuel octane

2) Higher chance of engine knocks (detonation)

3) Worse emissions

4) Higher oil consumption.

The Subaru Air/Oil Separator will solve all of these problems.

As the induction system operates at full efficiency on oxygenated air, fitting an oil catch tank can enable the engine to gain horsepower, as well as prevent carbon & sludge build up in the induction system.

Simply removing the emissions & breather system will tend to result in a very grimy engine bay, as well as being detrimental to the environment, not being allowed on any race tracks and an MOT fail.

For race use cars showing any indications of oil fumes from their breather system will be required to fit a catch tank by the scrutineers.

The Oil Catch Tank basically filters the fumes and oil away from the top of your engine and allows the oil to collect in a Catch Tank. From here it is easily possible to drain this captured oil and dispose of it.

The best Oil Catch Tanks are made out of Aluminium, this offers you a light weight unit that is very strong and durable.

Most race tracks require the use of an Oil Catch Tank for safety reasons.

You can use a Baffled Oil Catch Tanks and Non-Baffled Oil Catch Tanks.

Why Use An Intercooler? obp Tech Session

This is a little bit of basic info about how intercoolers work. 

 

How does an intercooler work?

Intercooler only work in conjunction with a turbocharger and Super Chargers / Blowers. The outlet air from the turbocharger and Super Charger / Blower heats up because of the work that has been done to compress it. Compressed air heats up. The increase in temperature results in a decrease in density, which means that less air enters the combustion chamber. An intercooler is used to cool down the compressed air, which increases the density. Denser air makes for better combustion (more power). Additionally, the denser, cooler air helps reduce the chances of knock. Two types of intercoolers are available on the market: air-to-air and water-to-air.

Where do I mount the intercooler?

Mount the intercooler as close as possible to the turbo and intake manifold. The shorter the path from the turbo outlet to the inlet manifold, the less the pressure drop and throttle-lag will be. Ensure that the intercooler gets direct airflow across the core for optimal cooling.

How To Increase BHP? obp Tech Session

Hello.

I found this basic information on how to boost BHP and thought it may interest you. 

 

There are many different ways to create more horsepower from a stock engine. Here are several examples (generally in order from least to most difficult/expensive):

­Change your computer chip. Sometime­s, but certainly not always, you can change a car’s performance by changing the ROM chip in the engine control unit (ECU). You usually buy these chips from aftermarket performance dealers. It is valuable to read an independent review of the chip you are contemplating, because some chips are all hype and no performance.

Let air come in more easily. As a piston moves down in the intake stroke, air resistance can rob power from the engine. Some newer cars are using polished intake
manifolds to eliminate air resistance there. Bigger air filters and reduced intake piping can also improve air flow.

­Let exhaust exit more easily. If air resistance
or back-pressure makes it hard for exhaust to exit a cylinder, it robs the engine of power. If the exhaust pipe is too small or the muffler has a lot of air resistance then this can cause back-pressure. High-performance exhaust systems use headers, big tail pipes and free-flowing mufflers to eliminate back-pressure in the exhaust system.

Change the heads and cams. Many stock engines have one intake valve and one exhaust valve. Buying a
new head that has four valves per cylinder will dramatically improve airflow in and out of the engine and this can improve power. Using performance cams can also make a big difference.­ ­
